The three-dimensional fashion.
Many years ago I was not going to the cinema to see a movie in 3D, and I confess that I was never a big fan. Those ridiculous glasses with one lens of each color for me were a nuisance and a hindrance to the enjoyment of the film. The last film (and most interesting experience) that I saw in IMAX 3D was in Barcelona for about 14 years ago, and it was a documentary about the wildlife that put us right in the middle of the natural habitat of animals and each other. Of course, the Imax technology is very different from traditional cinema, more advanced and with a dimension that can not be achieved in other formats, and even the glasses were never ridiculous or even in two colors. This technology is now experienced in 95 popularized this in theaters and "normal." And these advances have made the 3rd dimension more natural and more appealing to viewers, keeping colors true image and giving depth to the image and action. This meant that a year ago and so forth, only speak in films released in 3D, and even re-releases of old movies in the format (if the first two films in the trilogy "Toy Story," Pixar. Madness goes so far as today, the Venice Film Festival has announced that in this year (next September) there will be a new category for the best film in 3D, and opens with nine candidates already.
Last week saw two movies in 3D, "Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and "Up - highly," may not be the best examples of animated films, but has to have an idea of the pros and cons of three-dimensionality at the movies. And the glasses are still a problem, although better, more "normal, I always tend to take a few seconds to see what is really the big screen. Continue to be so distracting. And there is also the problem of the films are not created exclusively for the format, which means that they actually there are many scenes in which the depth is actually explored and is an enriching experience for the viewer. In the end, and all in all, there is some depth (not significant), but the prop uncomfortable away some focus on what is and always will be critical in film: The story, action and emotion.
Latest notes for the fact that theaters charge a stupid amount for the rental of glasses, and two films that might even be worth to see in 3D "Avatar" James Cameron and "Alice In Wonderland" by Tim Burton, made of root and purposely to be seen in. The second has already seen some fantastic images that may be the first of the three dimensions and it is known that a film that will revolutionize the film and that was 10 years waiting for the technology was developed to be done.

"Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs"
This third volume of the series of Blue Sky Studios brings us more of it. And it arrives and is more than satisfactory. "Ice Age 3" is one of the best years of fun, exhilarating, exciting and deliciously honest. They return all the characters we already know with new adventures ahead, but is scrath that continues to steal the film, especially with the addition of a female character who will share with the acorn to his attention. Manny is about being a father and suffers Diego the pressure of age, but it is Sid who will drive the narrative when accidentally discovers three dinosaur eggs and decides to adopt them, thus countering the lack of attention to that subject. When the mother returns to claim the young, the strange herd will have to survive and stay together, appealing to the emotional ties and their inner strengths.

Technically flawless, the story is what makes this a movie for the whole family and an above average fun, unpretentious and irresistible. Some scenes are favored by the 3d, especially the busiest, as the pursuit of an antelope Diego and Sid down the mountain on a board and balancing the three large eggs. But this is a minor factor, since, without the three-dimensionality, the film was also excellent and appealing and action would be equally impressive. This means that the gang of Blue Sky Studios knows how to keep your attention on what is important, not getting lost in technical subterfuge that, although perfect, do not overlap the narrative and emotion. Is in theaters.

"Up - Highly"
With Pixar spins the thing thinner. The types are the most brilliant filmmakers of our time and have used us very badly. From film to film technical innovation, but mainly narrative (always go together) grows and surprises, keeping among the best films of the year for 10 years now. And "Up - Highly", although it fails in this objective, is the first movie that the studio made some mistakes. But first things first. "Up" is the story of Carl Fredricksen, adventurous kid who knows a girl in love for adventure as he and she lives a full life, but quiet and normal, never losing sight of the dream. When Ellie dies, Carl, 78, sees himself condemned to a nursing home and losing all the memories of a lifetime. Minutes thousands of balloons to his house and part of the dream not yet realized to head to Latin America, in search of adventure, keeping with the objectives and spirit of his wife. Just do not mind hanging with a surprise, Russell, a boy scout and clumsy that it is a concern that Carl does not need and a real magnet for mishaps and adventures that will lead to adventures that Carl never dreamed of achieving. With a fascinating story like this, the data are released for more success at all levels to the studio, but from a certain point, there seemed to lack a narrative, a deconcentration unique in that studio films, which allowed for some improbable that function as destabilizing the conceptual center of the story and disperse the viewer's attention more attentive and engaged.
"Up" has, in its first 20 minutes, the best movie you have seen in recent years. More than 60 years go by the screen in such a short time, without losing sight of the essential and bringing the emotion to a level rarely seen in film animation. "Wall-E" last year, had also done the trick to keep the film without a single line of dialogue, for about half an hour, while maintaining all the features intact narratives and emotionally overwhelming. But while "Wall-E" never lost sight of the object complete and balanced elements and excitement for the rest of the film, "Up" is lost in minor additions and elects to accelerate the narrative, making mistakes primary balance, between the what is essential and absolutely superfluous and decontextualized. Despite being an animated film in which everything is permitted at the outset, there must be a compromise between the premise and its likelihood. From the moment they appear the dogs, which until then the film was dramatic and emotional, it is anecdotal and unbalanced the space as a whole. Perhaps the reason is the 3D. "Up" just happened to be a 3D movie premiere a few months and maybe the attention devoted to the format conversion to devolution has caused in the analysis of film as a whole and has left little time for editing and enhancement of the film. Or maybe Pixar has just made a mistake, there's a first time for everything. However, despite the film's lead less than it could be, it remains an excellent animated film, and certainly will be one of the best of the year when the count is made of weapons in December. There were the initial 20 minutes and would be an average movie, worthy of a 3. But Pixar continues to have these tears, thankfully. 5 premiere next Monday, 13 days.

And one extra: "Partly Cloudy"
And as usual at Pixar, to precede his last feature film is an absolutely amazing short. "Partly Cloudy" is a great little film about storks and their function to take the babies from the moment of creation to their parents. It's a beautiful movie, delicious, very well executed and a message of solidarity, friendship and affection. It has less than six minutes, but much more than many films of 2 hours. And he is here for you ...
